What would cause a 1984 rebuilt 351W Crate motor w/ 600 Edelbrock rebuilt carb to drown in fuel and backfire?

Cam went bad, put new RV cam and lifters in and rebuilt the edelbrock. It will idle and rev good in park, under load it stalls and backfires out of carb, and exhaust. What would cause a 1984 rebuilt 351W Crate motor w/ 600 Edelbrock rebuilt carb to drown in fuel and backfire?
You're running waaaaayyyy too rich with your carb and your timing is off so its firing while the intake or exhaust valves are open (intake if its firing back through the carb / exhaust if its firing through the tailpipes). If its been rebuilt recently it could be a problem with a bad timing chain (or installed improperly) or bad pushrods also. What would cause a 1984 rebuilt 351W Crate motor w/ 600 Edelbrock rebuilt carb to drown in fuel and backfire?
Sounds like the timing is off and/or your carb needs tuning (too rich). Lean it out as far as you can to start with and then get your timing correct. Then you can adjust the carb for mixture.
