with headers and flowmasters. what kind of power should i expect?I recently bought a 79 camaro resto mod has a 305 HO with a bigger cam and an edelbrock 600 4 barrel.?
Likely a loss. Also, I bet it lost a TON of torque in the RPM range where you do 99% of your driving. If so, it is a total performance loss accross the board accept WOT and wound up.
If you are looking for a number, I will tell you to kiss the ground if you get anywhere close to 250-275 with stock heads and some tuning. You are also giving up a TON of torque and horsepower with a dual exhaust compared to a single. That enigne with stock heads will make the best numbers anywhere/everywhere with a single 2 1/4 exhaust on it.
I would do a metering rod change on that carburetor, as they come with very fat(rich) ones on the power step. FYI: I personally feel that Jet prepped QuadraJets are S**T. I personally feel that they have no clue what they are doing with them other than make them look nice. I've fixed more brand new Jet builds which would not run out the box than I care to count. They knock the air bleeds out so the air bleeds are in essence giant. Big air bleeds KILL the signal to the jets and require BIG jets.
One recipe fits all does not apply. However, I feel that this is how they build them. At least that's what I have seen when I tear into one of their builds. The air bleeds also effect the enrichment during the throttle transition and hence 'how quick' the carb 'jumps on the jet' so to say. The bigger the bleeds, the slower that is. Also the air bleeds effect the fuel enrichment throughout the entire fuel curve/RPM range. That's a big reason why alot of the stuff of theirs that I have put my hands on have HUGE stumbles in them. Going from .118 air bleeds down to say maybe .070 and the carburetor is a completely different animal anywhere and everywhere. Jet should stick to Holley's, in this guy's opinion.

Shaun and chevyracer are pretty much on. First off, the "HO" designation did not exist on a 79 Camaro; The LG-3 305 came in only two horsepower levels, one for an auto trans, not for any added horsepower - "HO" is pretty much an 80's designation.
You'll be making a little better horsepower with a cam change, but not much, and as Shaun mentioned, its very easy to over-cam, over-intake, and over-exhaust the car, unless the engine build was a very sensible one.
If the heads haven't been touched and you're stuck with the (dismal) stock 305's compression ratio (which is likely around 8.6:1), you'll be lucky to even top 200 hp. The good news is that the Edelbrock 600 cfm is matched well to a 305; the bad news is that a Jet-prepped Quadrajet would probably have given you better flow velocity and better low-end torque numbers.
If you can provide better data on the heads (and any mods to them), and any cam specs, the "air-dyno" would be far more accurate!I recently bought a 79 camaro resto mod has a 305 HO with a bigger cam and an edelbrock 600 4 barrel.?
Can't even get close to a good guess with out knowing cold hard facts and specs.
Whats the compression ratio
What heads are on the engine
What cam duration, lift and LSA
That is bare min. specs needed to give you a good guess
