the carb squirted i think gas and does'nt start and when i leave the key turning it on it squirtes gas straught up out the carb, this is the first time i tried starting it after installing the new intake carb and hei distributor. any help on what it could be? and i know i need to change the spark plug wires, could that also be the problem? becuase the wires dont fit correctly on the distributor. this is a 71 impalaI just installed an edelbrock carb in my sbc and i tried to turn it on after putting the distributor and?
You need HEI wires. The cap is different on newer electronic ignition Chevys than it is old style points caps. If you replaced the distributor and it's spitting out gas then you probably installed it 180 degrees out.

your float is stuck,tap the carb with a screwdriver handle and see if it stops.if it dont,assembly is in question
