305 chevy,would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?

can someone tell me which intake manifold and carb is best for my 305 sbc,i would like to use edelbrock. will 90% of 350 parts work on 305?305 chevy, would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?
From personal experience dealing with a tuned 305 with ported stock heads, mid-level performance cam and a Performer intake - a Quadrajet is hands-down the best carb for your car.

The edelbrock 600 is a redesigned version of the Carter-series carbs. They have a fat primary and equal sized secondary - great for a 350, but it leaves your low-rpm performance soggy. The primary circuits do not run well due to low velocity/signal to the circuit - tip in tends to bog unless you do a lot of tuning to get rid of it (note - a little extra advance will go a long way to solve the tip-in bog). Holleys are similar in their fat-primary openings, although I think they're just a hair better in tuning for a small-bore engine. Your 305 acts like a "stroked small bore", since your bore size is small, yet your stroke is the same as a 350.

The quadrajet has a tiny primary circuit which works wonders in promoting velocity at part-throttle. Then, when you need WOT performance, the vacuum secondaries can come in quickly. Look for a stage-1 prepped quad for your 305.

Regarding parts - yes 90% of parts FIT on a 305, but many of the performance parts destined for a 350 are vast overkill for a 305. Cams should be kept to mid-performance level. Otherwise if you install a performance 350-grade cam, you will lose all your low-end torque for very little high-end power. Air Flow Research had some fantastic 305 spec heads - I recommend them. Otherwise, a well ported set of stock heads with stock sized 194/150 valves will offer a more than enough flow on a 305. Remember to look for small chamber sizes - don't think 350 chambers are appropriate! Look for the best flow off of the narrowest plenum you can find for your head. A fat port head with 305 - sized valves will kill your low end. Look for narrow port heads with proper sized valves with 3-angle valve jobs.

Likewise, keep your tubular headers toward the meek side. A 1 5/8 pipe is too big - you want to maintain velocity, and a good signal to your carb with your header choice!

Good luck!
Oh it will be just fine for it. as long as you have about 300-320hp out of it, but if the car is stock go with the 500CFM but if you intend on putting RHS Pro Torker Vortec Heads, Edelbrock Performer EPS Vortec Intake and an Performer-Plus Cam in it then i would say it's just fine. I did this with one of my friends to his 1982 Camaro that had a 305 and it came up to around 315hp and around 380Ft/Lbs. I can't remember exactly how much it had since we dyno-tested the car about 6 years ago but hell was that one fast 82 Camaro.

A 500 CFM carb from Edelbrock is more for engines that are stock to 300 well a 600CFM carb is more ment for 300hp-400hp engines. 305 chevy, would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?
If you want a good combo for a mostly stock 305 Chevy, a 600 cfm Holley vacuum secondary carb and an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold would be a good choice. A double pumper will most likely cause a bog or stumble unless a high stall torque converter or manual transmission is used.

A 500 to 600 cfm Edelbrock carb would be fine, too. I prefer a Holley carb for performance as I have tried both on my '74 Nova 350. The Holley always made more power for me,but it is just my preference.

The parts that won't interchange between a 305 and a 350 is shorter than what will fit. Intake manifolds, headers, cam and lifters, oil pump timing set, distributor, these are all parts that are the same.

The heads will sometimes swap, but the bore size of a 305 is smaller than a 350 and the larger intake valves in 350 heads may hit the 305 cylinder bore when fully open.

So yes, most 350 parts will fit your engine.
hey a 600 is good.. i ran a 600 on my 302 chevy engine i had in my s10 .. you can always go down a meter rod set a size or 2 if you need to . To run a engine a little rich is better than a little lean and run the chance of burning a piston yes most parts that will work on a 350 should work on a 305... i had the elelbrock performer set- carb, cam, and intake...305 chevy, would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?
I ran an Edelbrock manifold with a Holly 600 manual (edit: oops, I meant vacuum) secondary on my 305 and it was fairly easy to tune.
no to the 600 carb bc it'll be too much fuel pouring in w/out a double pumper

500 shld be a safe set up w/out blowing a streak of oil everywhere

GL
I would go with the 500 it you are running stock heads. And go with a low rise dual plane intake manifold.
