I have a 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup, and it's a bone stock 350. I junked the old quadrajet, and I purchased a new Edelbrock 4bbl 1405 carburetor with the adapter plate. I installed everything correctly, and now the truck won't start. It whips really fast, then begins popping and tries to start. The engine then lopes a little then dies. I tried adjusting the idle screws, but it didn't change anything. This is a brand new carb, what am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help!Edelbrock carburetor question?
if the truck ran with old carb then something wrong with the new one take it back were u got it, if u can't then check the floats in the carbs, if the carb got stored upside down the needle and seat may be stuck in the up position no fuel can get in the bowls....
Try putting the carb on your boat and then ask your question, or, you could try putting your question in the correct category.Edelbrock carburetor question?
Make sure the adaptor plate and carb base are setting on the manifold dead flat and the bolts/screws are all properly torqued. Are all the vacuum hoses/ports accounted for and connected. This sounds like an air leak, but the carb could be defective. Edelbrock ain't what it used to be. Try spraying carb cleaner down the bores while cranking it. If it wants to run it might be fuel starvation as was mentioned before. Good luck.
sounds like a major air leak somewhere thats where i would start...Edelbrock carburetor question?

I just got a edelbrock carburetor #1406 600 cfm electric choke!!?
I have a 85 chevy 305 5.0 ltr. v8 does any one know how to install an edelbrock? my original carb is a Qjet computer controlled!!! how do i replace with the edelbrock???? i dont care if its not emission legal i just need some HELP PLEASE! Thanks!!I just got a edelbrock carburetor #1406 600 cfm electric choke!!?
Ya, Listen to the first guy. And if you still have trouble go to www.edelbrock.com They'll have the answers there. They have a really good tech line.I just got a edelbrock carburetor #1406 600 cfm electric choke!!?
well lets see here you bought a carb and cant put it on because you need an adapter for the edelbrock to mate to your intake when you take off the quadrajet you will notice the base of the edelbrock is square and the base of the quadrajet is not so go back to the parts store and buy an adapter all you need to do is to remove the nut from the carb studs on the intake disconnect the fuel line and disconnect the electrical wires then you need to bolt the adapter on and then bolt the new edelbrock in its new home hook up your fuel line run a key on hot wire to the electric choke and you are ready to go pretty much the carb is adjusted out of the boxxenon

What clydr heads should i run with edelbrock scorpion cam and intake? looking for around 450 horses. thanks?
bought a 85 s-10 with a 350 in it. every seal was leaking and had a bad tranny so i pulled everything and while its out im going to drop some $ in it. have the cam and intake from my old truck but want something thats going to pair up nicely. thanks for the help. What clydr heads should i run with edelbrock scorpion cam and intake? looking for around 450 horses. thanks?
dart sportsmans.
or better yet look for some vortecs from a late model chevy pickup.
Some come with 2.05 valves.
I have also heard of stock car racers using 305 heads 416 casting and getting more compression due to the smaller combustion chambers.a little work to debur the edges to make sure there is no sharp edges in the combustion chamber is all that is needed.make sure you toss some headers in it as well.A higher stall converter wont also be a bad investment. What clydr heads should i run with edelbrock scorpion cam and intake? looking for around 450 horses. thanks?
Todd, the dart sportsmans are very outdated.
If you want to keep your intake then vortec heads are out of the question (although 96-00 350 vortec heads are one of the best street, street/strip heads, flowing better than alot of aftermarket heads)
I recommend Brodix IK 180's or canfield 195 heads. Both runns around $1000-1100 for the ready to run pair, buth worth it. They will make about 80 HP more than stock older heads, about 30-40 HP more than vortec heads
I would really think about a diff intake too. IIRC thats a very old single plane med rise intake.
You will make power useable power with a med to tall rise dual plane intake like the edelbrock rpm, rpm air gap, pro products crosswinds, etc intake

Edelbrock carburetor not working correctly?
My car wont run unless I pump the accelerator it wont idle or stay at a certain rpm. I rebuilt my carburetor and adjusted the floats because the carburetor was flooding my engine. Its a 600 cfm edelbrock carburetor about 4 years old. The engine is brand new just installed into my car. Every thing on my mustang is brand new from fuel pump, fuel lines to transmission and motor. The car is a 1982. Nothing is used all brand new.Edelbrock carburetor not working correctly?
you need to adjust the idle screws on the carb if you didn't do it, let the car warm up and turn idle screws in all the way until they lightly seat then back each one out 1.5 turns, hook up a tachometer or a vacuum gauge and then turn each screw in or out until you get the highest reading on the gauge and their set, next set the idle screw on the carb where the linkage hooks up to about 900 to 1,000 RPM.Edelbrock carburetor not working correctly?
did you adjust air mixture screw out 3 turns an do you have cock set right an bas idal set

Can i put an edelbrock proformer 2 big block intake manifold on my 1970 chevy 350 small block?
Not even the best mechanic / machinist would even try to do that. Not possible.
Big Block / Small Block-----totally different engines. Some external accessories will interchange (starter, distributor, etc) otherwise no parts fit!Can i put an edelbrock proformer 2 big block intake manifold on my 1970 chevy 350 small block?
Sure, you can put it on, but it won't bolt to the heads. So it will just sit there looking good, but it will be useless. Can i put an edelbrock proformer 2 big block intake manifold on my 1970 chevy 350 small block?
what is it about big and small you dont get? NO it only fits BIG blocks not SMALL blocks
blane thinks you can put a 15 inch tire on a 16 inch rim too..lolCan i put an edelbrock proformer 2 big block intake manifold on my 1970 chevy 350 small block?
lol god no. A big block intake WILL NOT fit a small block engine.
Yes you can do it but I wouldn't recommend it get a better intake then Edelbrock.

I am not sure about edelbrock, but I know you can get them from Barry Grant (Demon). Is holley the only one who makes 3deuces or can you get them from edelbrock also?
3 deuces was just terminology for having 3 2 barrel carbs on one manifold, not a brand of carb

Whats the difference between a 650 cfm and a 800 cfm edelbrock carburetor?
Alot. 1st the 800 cfm flows 150 cfm more air through it (way too big for anything under 427 cid)
Next is the fueling curb is set to match the air demands and fuel demands of a large cid engine
The 650 has .095" main jets, .098" sec. jets, .068x.47" metering rods, .031" pump nozzle, 1-7/16" throttle bores, 1-3/16" prim and 1-9/16" sec venturi
The 800 cfm has .113 main jets, .101" sec. jets, .068x.047" metering rods, .035" pump nozzle, 1-3/4" throttle bores, 1-17/32" prim and 1-5/8" sec venturiWhats the difference between a 650 cfm and a 800 cfm edelbrock carburetor?
One would work best on like a 350 ci engine 650cfm and the other on a 455 ci engine. The cfm is cubic feet per minute and will deliver the portions of fuel to go with that amount of air. If you over carburete an engine it will run doggy and foul plugs even going down on the jetting. Always try to go with a carb that fits the engine.Whats the difference between a 650 cfm and a 800 cfm edelbrock carburetor?
The amount of air and fuel that can flow through it the 800 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) will allow 150 more CFM through it it is a larger carburetor.

Will edelbrock headers on a 04 GT Mustang add horsepower, and how much?
You may see about 5 HP at the rear wheels. Headers will scavenge the exhaust better, and I would install an X pipe at the same time. Better breathing equals better performance.
Today's engines and computers are generally tweeked with lots of small gains. Unlike the cars of the 40's through the 70's.
A big gain can be seen with a reprogrammer such as a Bullydog (one example)Will edelbrock headers on a 04 GT Mustang add horsepower, and how much?
It may help some. Most engines nowadays are computer controlled, and the addition of headers will help get heat and exhaust away quicker so engine may breathe a little better. Catalytic converter and computer controls will compensate out a lot of the gains made by the headers. You need to consider a chip upgrade and a cold air intake kit to get real results. Will edelbrock headers on a 04 GT Mustang add horsepower, and how much?
Yes they will add power. My guess, 8-15 HP at the crank.

I have a 454, edelbrock 1406. Thin white smoke, smells of carbon dioxide and gas, black chalky sparkplugs.?
I have run this at idle several times after brand new spark plugs. I drove it once, very sluggish acceleration. If i floor it it bogs and almost dies. I think its running way too rich, adjusting idle mixture screws doesnt help, or im adjusting them wrong. what do i need to make this run leaner, do you think i need a new carb or a rebuild?I have a 454, edelbrock 1406. more than likely it's running a little too rich, you need to buy a edelbrock carb recalibration kit from summit racing or jegs and install differen't jets and metering rods.I have a 454, edelbrock 1406. Thin white smoke, smells of carbon dioxide and gas, black chalky sparkplugs.?

Which is the better carb for my vehicle holley or edelbrock?
i have a 1981 chevy truck with a 305. the motor has a mild cam and headers. i also have a 2000 rpm stall speed converterWhich is the better carb for my vehicle holley or edelbrock?
Edelbrock is basically a Holly.Which is the better carb for my vehicle holley or edelbrock?
Talk to both tech support lines and match to the intake manifoldWhich is the better carb for my vehicle holley or edelbrock?
Edelbrock is a more reliable carb, requires less tinkering. Holley is more suited to the weekend racer guys.
This is a classic Ford or Chevy question.
I have used both Holley and Edelbrock. I am running a 460 with many, many modifications. My Holley gives me great throttle response and tons of power, but it sucks down fuel. The same size Edelbrock gets better fuel mileage, but not as much power.
The Holley gets 11 mpg, and the Edelbrock gets 18 mpg.
The Holley carbs are also notorious for fuel leaks.
If you just want to buy one and never have to do anything to it, I would recommend the Edelbrock. If you don't mind replacing gaskets and setting floats, get a Holley.
Hope this helps you some.

Edelbrock Turbo Kit 1501, why replace lower radiator hose?
In the Edelbrock complete turbo kit 1501 for the 99-00 Civic Si...why does it contain a lower radiator HARD PIPE to replace your stock rubber lower rad. hose?? I just don't understand it, please let me know if you have any info. thanks!Edelbrock Turbo Kit 1501, why replace lower radiator hose?
iv never seen the kit but if it includes it then its probably to clear room for intercooler piping or something.

What would make a brand new edelbrock carb model 1406 flood?
I own a shop, a drag car %26amp; truck, and have built many of these carburetors over the years. The number one cause is; the float level being too high. The next reason would be the needle valve not sealing off. The next reason would be trash in the fuel causing the needle %26amp; seat to not seal off. Another thing that will do this is too much fuel pressure forcing the fuel past the needle valve. Finally, the float could be bad, and not floating. It could be sinking, and allowing the fuel to continue to flow. Try lowering the float level about 1/8 of an inch, and if this doesn't seem to make a difference, then replace the needle %26amp; seat valve. Your fuel pressure shouldn't exceed about 7-8 pounds. If you have an aftermarket fuel pump, then it needs to be one that has a return line going back to the tank to bleed off the excess pressure. The needle %26amp; seat assembly is very easy to damage, so caution should be used when adjusting it, and also make sure the gasket thats under the needle valve is in good condition and the seat is tight. When you tighten a seat, sometimes a tiny bit of brass will break away from where you use a tool to tighten it up with, and get down in between the needle and the seat, thus causing it to not seal off. If you have an electric fuel pump, then you "must" use a pressure regulator, or the pressure will be so much that it will flood no matter what you do.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!What would make a brand new edelbrock carb model 1406 flood?
Float sticking, fuel pressure too high or bad needle valve/seat or dirt particle blocking it from closing (for the fuel inlet). What would make a brand new edelbrock carb model 1406 flood?
Bran new? Sounds like too high a pressure from the fuel pump. It also could be the floats have been knocked out of spec.
Eldel carbs are nice due to very few things can go wrong with them and easy to work on.Unlike those holley POS.

HOW do you tune in a model 1406 Edelbrock my friend adjusted it wrong.?
If it's new and your friend didn't open it up(take it apart to access the float bowels), then screw in the two fuel/air mixture screws in until they stop. DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM!!!. The are a seat/stem assembly and tightening them will ruin them quickly, just turn them in until they stop.
Since you neglected to mention what engine the carb is mounted on, all I can give you are rough guidelines on setting up the carb.
After they fuel/air mix screws are turned in, back them both out an equal amount, the screw slots may, or may not be aligned the same. The important part is that they be set out the same, 2 1/2 turns should do to get it running and from there you can fine-tune it for optimal performance or fuel economy, whichever you prefer. You can do a spark plug check as you proceed with the fine-tuning to ensure you're not running too rich or too lean.HOW do you tune in a model 1406 Edelbrock my friend adjusted it wrong.?
Turn in the idle mixture screws to they bottom out . Turn them out 2 turns. Then turn them out while listening to the idle. the idle will increase to a certain point and at the point it doesn`t increase anymore stop. If you access to a vacum gauge do the same until the vacum increase stopsHOW do you tune in a model 1406 Edelbrock my friend adjusted it wrong.?
you should just bore out your two-stroker and make sure to change the chrome reed valves they need the valvation to work with the water

What would cause a 1984 rebuilt 351W Crate motor w/ 600 Edelbrock rebuilt carb to drown in fuel and backfire?
Cam went bad, put new RV cam and lifters in and rebuilt the edelbrock. It will idle and rev good in park, under load it stalls and backfires out of carb, and exhaust. What would cause a 1984 rebuilt 351W Crate motor w/ 600 Edelbrock rebuilt carb to drown in fuel and backfire?
You're running waaaaayyyy too rich with your carb and your timing is off so its firing while the intake or exhaust valves are open (intake if its firing back through the carb / exhaust if its firing through the tailpipes). If its been rebuilt recently it could be a problem with a bad timing chain (or installed improperly) or bad pushrods also. What would cause a 1984 rebuilt 351W Crate motor w/ 600 Edelbrock rebuilt carb to drown in fuel and backfire?
Sounds like the timing is off and/or your carb needs tuning (too rich). Lean it out as far as you can to start with and then get your timing correct. Then you can adjust the carb for mixture.national tire and battery

Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor?
i have a 1989 dodge ram pickup and i was wondering if i could switch out the old intake manifold and throttle body (TBI) for an edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor??? and how much work would be involved???Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor?
NO YOU CAN'T IF YOU HAVE TO SMOG IT. IF NOT 5.2L 5.9L V8 ,318 360 CI YES EDELBROCK MAKES STUFF YOU CAN BOLT ON.Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor?
why in gods name would you want to go from fuel injection to carb??????????? it'll be a fairly good job, because of the system putting too much fuel pressure to the carb just for starters. Edelbrock should have a manifold that works with the tbi and use the money you would have spent on the carb for other upgrades. you can get better mpg and more power from tbi.Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor?

why in gods name would you want to go from fuel injection to carb??????????? it'll be a fairly good job, because of the system putting too much fuel pressure to the carb just for starters. Edelbrock should have a manifold that works with the tbi and use the money you would have spent on the carb for other upgrades. you can get better mpg and more power from tbi.Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor?

Quadrajet carb on a edelbrock intake?
I just came across an edelbrock intake, it was on an 86 chevy truck with a 350, on the top is says Performer RPM, and its at least 10 years old, will my stock quadrajet work with that intake?Quadrajet carb on a edelbrock intake?
OK I was going to stay out of this one, but I can't stand knowing the fact some people must tell you things that just are not true. I have a street machine with a 350 (built) and a Performer RPM Intake, and a Quadrajet jetted to about 750 CFM. I never had any problems making it work right out of the box. If it is a dual plane intake, then the quadra-jet will bolt right to it. If you will look at the intake you will see two bolt patterns for both types of carburetors.
Glad I could help you, Good Luck!!!
Musiclick has it right but needs to emphasise that extensive reworking of the quadrajet must be done before factory levels of stock performance can be achieved. If done correctly you will enjoy above average performance with the added benefits of rock solid reliabillity.Quadrajet carb on a edelbrock intake?
No. The performer intake is a conventional two plane intake which accepts a Holley or a Dominator Carb. You may find a carb adapter to make the fit. The rear throttle plates on a Q jet will come in contact with your intake. Your truck has plenty of room for this adapter however, Check all linkages throttle and automatic transmission Be sure neither completely bottom out.
i mechanic for a living,,and yes it should fit,,the performer series was made to work with stock carbs,,i had one on an old truck,,and it worked fine,,good luck hope this help,s.Quadrajet carb on a edelbrock intake?
Yes it will work, I have an 87 Chevy truck (El Camino) with the exact same setup. I had to replace the old carb and got the quadrajet too. Just slap the plate on there and bolt her up. It'll sound great. PS: watch out when you hammer it down, the sound may be too cool for you if you have an exhaust on it.
it depends on the cfm of the intake and the engine. some have alot higher cfm rating than the stock manifold and you will be running lean ! research the manifold numbers befor you just slap it on.
jim D knows his stuff
Yes it should work just fine.

I have a chevy 350 4bolt engine with an edelbrock performer intake with edelbrock 600cfm carb.?
it is pretty strong but i don't have the muscle car lope it is pretty much a bit over stock but the heads they a castiron it is installed in a 83 silverado with duel 2 1/2 exhaust with flowmaster 40's what type cam would be best and would it be best to get liftes and pushrods as a whole set.I have a chevy 350 4bolt engine with an edelbrock performer intake with edelbrock 600cfm carb.?
theres a few ways you could go with this.
one is that edelbrock makes a cam/lifter set up matched to work with that intake and carb set up. summitracing.com has the matched set.
if it was for a customer who was just looking for that sound and maybe raced stop light to stop light once or twice a year, i would use one of two cam.
summit's cam and lifters set part #SUM-K1106
cam has .234degs duration@50
and .488degs of lift, cost $89.95
or crane cams again a cam and lifter set part # CRN-100182
cam has .230degs duration@50
and .465 of lift, cost $127.95
with both those you can use your springs and rockers, and that is on the heavy side giving you that sound your looking for.
and if it was for my self and i wasnt going to make this anything more then a all most daily driver.
i would go with this one.
part # CRN-100112
cam has .246degs duration@50
and .501 lift for an automatic trans or with out changing the torque converter
or with a manual trans
part # CCA-12-214-4
cam has .253degs duration@50
and .525 of lift
but with both of those youll need to replace push rods, valve springs, and you can use your rockers with the top one, but i wouldnt, i would go with roller rockers with both of those cams
and both of those will give you that sound your looking for and maybe just a little bit more, cause both of those are heavy sounding cams.
anything more bigger then that youll need to do other work, or it would be a waste of cash.
I own a shop, and will make it easy %26amp; simple for you without being too technical. The "best" cam %26amp; lifter sets depend on many things. If you will go to:
http://www.compcams.com
You can download this neat program that allows you to pick from a list of suggestions that are tailored to your vehicle. I have found this tool to be very useful, and can be a huge asset in selecting a set up that will do what you expect it to do.
As for your pushrods; Check your springs for bind in all areas, and use an adjustable pushrod to determine the correct length to use. Even the thickness of your head gaskets will change the pushrod length. What you "must" acheive is; fully closed the rocker arm should be sitting on the valve stem just inside the center of the stem, and when the valve is fully open it should sit just outside the center of the stem. In other words; the rocker (when correct) will use the area from 1/4 - 3/4 of the stem face. Anything else will cause the stem to mushroom, and total engine failure may very well be the end result.

Crowler stage 2 has that sound ya want and the low to mid range torque. Also , idle it down just a little. Gotta have THAT SOUND!!!!!! I even have it with my Harley with Andrews cam

call crane cams with the specs, they will tell you which cam to go with.
That's the classic #1 mistake.. Street engines and guys wants them to sound like race engines.
End up with an over camm'ed gas sucking engine that don't have the torque to get out of it's own way..
To get that lope you need more duration.. Duration is time that valves are held open
The bigger duration moves the power band up.. Say like if you have good power now from idle to 4500 rpm.. Install a big cam and you'll have power from 3000 rpm to 5500 (heads then becomes the bottle neck)
Next cam size has to match your compression ratio.. Remember duration holds valves open longer..
That means the open valves lets your compression go out the exhaust.
So to build the cyl pressure you need to have good torque, you must have higher compression ratio..
I can't really recommend a cam size unless I know your compression..
But I will tell you this.. The ONLY way to get the sound you want and still have good low end torque is by installing a cam with a 105 to 108 degree LSA..
Now that tight LSA will kill off alot of your vac, idle rough, needs a higher idle rpm, and your power brales won't be near as good, but you'll get the sound you want.
If compression ratio is stock 7.8:1 to 8.5:1 then you don't want any larger than 214* @ .050" lift.
With stock type heads, you will make more power with a dual pattern cam.. 8-12* more exhaust duration than intake..
So something like 204/214* @.050", 106 LSA, and about .430"/.440" lift
Most stock heads are lift limited to .450" and others to .480" before you have clearance probs with retainers to seals, retainers to guides, valve spring pressure too weak, coil bind, etc
If you have more compression like 9.0 to 9.75:1 you can step up duration to 214/224 @.050"
If over 9.75:1 and under 10.0:1 you can go up to 216/228 @.050
If between 10.0 and 10.4 you can again step up duration to 218 or 220 intake, 230 or 232 exhaust @ .050"
Always use new lifters with a new cam..

SHOULD I USE Edelbrock Performer RPM Xtreme CNC LT4 Cylinder Heads ON MY 1995 CAMARO?
or should i use a set of trick flow genx heads?SHOULD I USE Edelbrock Performer RPM Xtreme CNC LT4 Cylinder Heads ON MY 1995 CAMARO?
Good swap, but you will need to make sure to use the correct intake for the LT4 also, trick flow are great heads too, and do add a lot of performance, however, you will need to do a little port matching on your lt1 intake if you use those. You can port match machine your lt1 intake to match edelbrock lt4 heads, however that can be problematic, and you should use a flow bench to do it correctly.
Another option is simply to have your existing set of aluminum LT1 heads milled, ported and relieved. Find a shop with a flow bench, and you will be surprised at how much increase in performance you can achieve, have them "port- flow" your intake also, find a higher lift/duration cam with commensurate valvetrain components, and let the good times roll. Unless the edelbrock or trick flow heads are free, you should consider this option. Remember, you already have the stock heads, unless they are trashed, you get more power, and less cost. That is the American way.SHOULD I USE Edelbrock Performer RPM Xtreme CNC LT4 Cylinder Heads ON MY 1995 CAMARO?
If you're going to do this swap, you'll need to swap to the LT4 type intake to get the ports to match up properly. Since that's the case, I'd recommend doing the Edelbrock swap, since they have the intake that's perfectly matched to the heads they make. Otherwise, you'll have some flow disruption (and power loss) from the transition between the two - something you probably don't want!
While you're at it, you'll want to swap out the LT1 cam to either the HOT cam, or the Edelbrock LT4 cam to maximize the flow these heads (and intake) will give you.

With and original 1972 Olds 350 Rocket, what kind of HP should I expect with headers and a edelbrock intake?
Your stock engine should be rated at 160 HP @ 4000 RPM if it's in a Cutlass and if it's a 2 barrel. 180 HP if it's a 4 barrel. If the engine is in good condition with no blow-by, I'm guessing you should be able to see around 190-210 HP with these parts installed. With and original 1972 Olds 350 Rocket, what kind of HP should I expect with headers and a edelbrock intake?

Will a edelbrock 600 carb run my sbc 383?
i need to know if a edelbrock 600 mech secondary carb will run my sbc 383,it is a street engine with about 400 hp,i dont want it to run to lean and hurt my motor.i am almost done building my 383r.i done a great job but when i got to the intake and carb i ran out of money,im in between jobs so money is tight! Will a edelbrock 600 carb run my sbc 383?
I don't really think the 600 will give it enough gas, you really need to go with a 700 or 750 on a stroker engine, check on craigslist for a used 750, I have seen them on there from time to time. Will a edelbrock 600 carb run my sbc 383?
I would not recommend an Edelbrock carb. for anything other than racing. After having to buy a secondary spring kit, jet kit, and a couple of different sets of metering rods, I still never got mine to run acceptably on the street with a basically stock engine. These are made by Webber in Sanford, NC. They are more or less throttle bodies. Mine is on the shelf collecting dust, while my rebuilt Quadra-Jet runs perfect. Let's face it, even Holley fell short of running within emission standards, while Quadr-Jets were used on Chevy's up until fuel injection took over. Besides, they are the most tune-able carb. ever built. A basic Q-J flowes up to 750cfm, some big block versions flow up to 1,000cfm. Check out Sean Murphey Induction (SMI) and Jet Performance on line. You can get one of these Q-J's tuned for your engine for less than a Holley, but a little more than an Edelbrock. When I crack open the secondary at 80% throttle, (manually) my truck sounds like there's a tornado under the hood, and I get four more miles a gallon than I did a with a Holley 600 with a vacuum secondary. Is the 600 Edelbrock big enough? If you twist it hard, I doubt it...we race a 355 turning about 500hp, and had to move from a Holley 700 to a 770AD because we were running lean in the upper RPM's even after going up four jet sizes. Hate to see someone scorch a new stroker. Will a edelbrock 600 carb run my sbc 383?
It will work just fine for regular cruising, but for racing it will not work, not enough CFM's to fuel the engine at higher rpm"s......
It will but it needs to be jetted right. If I were you I would buy an air fuel Gage it works of an o2 sensor and will take all the worries about running lean away.

What brand of carburetor is better Holley or Edelbrock?
i have a 69 mustang with a 351 Cleveland engine in there, and i need a 4 barrel and i was wondering which would be my best choiceWhat brand of carburetor is better Holley or Edelbrock?
Holley is your best bet because Float, fuel/air mixture and idle circuit adjustments can be easily done. Edelbrock just puts their name on it but in disguise it's really either a Holley, Carter or Rochester. Just be sure to get the right size carb for your application because bigger isn't better when it comes to carbs. Good luck and hope this helps. What brand of carburetor is better Holley or Edelbrock?
Unless you intend on beefing up your 351, a new stock carb will do you just fine... and save you quite a bit of $$. Buying a performance carb for a stock motor is not gonna make your car go faster. That's my $.02What brand of carburetor is better Holley or Edelbrock?

I have an edelbrock dual plane intake manifold for a small block chevy.?
i would like to know can the intake go bad at any point and what might be the reason. it was on a 305 motor and the car wouldnt stay running. when we took it off and put on another intake it fired right up and ran fine. so i want to know will it work if i put it on another 305 motor. or is the intake in fact bad.I have an edelbrock dual plane intake manifold for a small block chevy.?

Where do i plug the power brake vacuum line into an edelbrock carb?
you don't --it must go directly to the intake, all brake boosters require max. vaccuum and that cannot be acheived by the carb.Where do i plug the power brake vacuum line into an edelbrock carb?
my carb did not come with a port either. i used a spacer plate below the carb that had a threaded port. or you can use any manifold vacume port on the intake.Where do i plug the power brake vacuum line into an edelbrock carb?
The big almost 1/2 inch connection on the bottom in the frt or back.

What causes Backfire with an Edelbrock 4 barrel carb?
I would think the engine is out of time or the spark plug wires are not installed correctly.
Carb is too lean, Common problem with Edelbrock. Buy a primary metering spring kit.
Dude, I had this exact same problem. 350 engine and the Edel 4b carb.
I was looking every where online for answer's and basically it could be anything from lack of fuel to timing to the advance on the carb. I tried everything, then i pulled off the valve covers and noticed one of the rocker arms wasn't moving. i turned the nut in the center one full turn and booooom it ran like a champ!!!!
I bet if u pull the covers thats your problem...shop bop

Whats the difference between a edelbrock torker and performer intake manifold?
both intakes are made for different RPM ranges, the torker is a single plane intake that is for racing and is not that great on the street as it really doesn't start working until you hit 2,500 RPM and is good up to 6,500 RPM, the performer is a little better than a stock intake and is a dual plane intake that makes power from 0 RPM up to 5,500 RPM and is a good street intake if you want to replace your stock intake with a little more power, now if you want the best of both worlds go with the performer RPM as it's a dual plane intake that starts at 1,500 RPM and is good to 6,000 RPM.Whats the difference between a edelbrock torker and performer intake manifold?
The torker series is an open plenum designed for maximum horsepower at high rpm. These are very dependant on other choices within the engine. Typically don't even think of the torker if the engine is going to see any street use.
The performer series intake is a dual plenum, These intakes boast more horsepower through low and mid rpm ranges, where most daily driving and weekend warriors run.
Keep in mind this is just a very basic description of the two.Whats the difference between a edelbrock torker and performer intake manifold?
The performer is a dual plane intake, while the torker is a single plane intake. Look up Edelbrock.com to see complete descriptions.

The performer series intake is a dual plenum, These intakes boast more horsepower through low and mid rpm ranges, where most daily driving and weekend warriors run.
Keep in mind this is just a very basic description of the two.Whats the difference between a edelbrock torker and performer intake manifold?

I Have a 1985GM Sierra a 350 with edelbrock performance headers and carburetor and a double pipe flow master?
How many horsepower would i have under the hood???I Have a 1985GM Sierra a 350 with edelbrock performance headers and carburetor and a double pipe flow master?
500I Have a 1985GM Sierra a 350 with edelbrock performance headers and carburetor and a double pipe flow master?
its really hard to say on something like that, is the engine what came in it? the engine normally makes 239 hp so id add 40 or 50 more to that and u might be somewhere close!!! Its really hard to say without more information!

Has any one installed an edelbrock cam into their 89-95 chevy 305?
was it worth the money , or should i just stick with a stock replacement. was there a noticible increase in power and torque?Has any one installed an edelbrock cam into their 89-95 chevy 305?
There will be a noticeable difference, but you want to make sure you talk to their tech line to make sure you buy the correct cam for your wants/needs.
The 305 is pretty sensitive about cam changes, and you need to be careful not to put too much cam in so that you don't need to change a lot of other things... like your computer's programming. The people at edelbrock will steer you in the right direction, so you can keep your computer the way it is.
If you can do the programming yourself, then you can put as much cam into it as you want. Very difficult to get it perfect on a mail order chip, but they can be purchased.valvoline instant oil change

1975 Chevy truck, 350, edelbrock carb, backfires after tuneup at shop. He will not work on it anymore.?
I live at 6500' elevation. He said he set it to run at this elevation. Is the dist set wrong? It has always run great until now. New cap, rotor, wires and plugs. How can I fix this??1975 Chevy truck, 350, edelbrock carb, backfires after tuneup at shop. He will not work on it anymore.?
set the timing to 10 degrees with a timing light1975 Chevy truck, 350, edelbrock carb, backfires after tuneup at shop. He will not work on it anymore.?
I would check the firing order as it sounds as if he has switched two plug wires around. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

Edelbrock heads for 289 in a 66 mustang? + how much horsepower? Please Help!?
So i have a 1966 mustang and am looking to add a little more get up and go to the beast. i was wondering what heads would be the best to add power and performance to my stang. Right now i have a 4fb edelbrock intake, a new edelbrock 4 barrel carb., and some classic k code exaust manifolds connected to flow master exaust. any tips would be greatly appreciated. ThanksEdelbrock heads for 289 in a 66 mustang? + how much horsepower? Please Help!?
A high performance cam and lifters would do wonders, in fact the heads won't do much good without them...You might get 300 hp with just the heads, but add the cam kit and your talking over 400 hp!Edelbrock heads for 289 in a 66 mustang? + how much horsepower? Please Help!?
first i would get rid of the k code stuff and put on some good headers. less weight and twice the flow. you should have flat top pistons so some good heads will help out. the 289 heads don't have hard seats and have the "motor ruining" pressed in rocker studs, not to mention the worthless rail rockers that continually chew up valve tips. you are sorta at the cross roads,,,how many miles on the 289? what shape? to replace the heads you are going to have to tear it down so... maybe a cam and lifter change, electronic ignition, maybe forget the motor for now and do disc brakes. or a suspension change. rear end, slapping a set of heads on that old motor is a lot different than an intake carb swap and going to be a lot more expensive. its only time and money. good luckEdelbrock heads for 289 in a 66 mustang? + how much horsepower? Please Help!?
the only other way to make your pony gallop is 302 windsor as it is bolt in replacement for the 289 and there is a lot of stuff for making the 302 faster
ask edelbrock, but, before you buy heads why not put a decent cam and matching valvetrain in it?

What could i get out of if i was selling 2 used edelbrock 4 barrel carborators ? mr gasket carb spacer?
edelbrock triangle shape air cleaner ? PLEASE and thanks

Guppy is about right on the price.
Used eddy carbs go for between $50 and 100 each depending on cond., size, choke type, etc.
Spacers are cheap new for those cheap branfs like mr. gasket. New they run $20-30
Used might bring $5-10
The air cleaner, again is cheap new, like $30-35 IIRC, Used $10

750 CFM? Are they rebuilt? How used are they? I think they go new for something like 250 to 300 right? I'd say 100 a piece used.

I have spark fuel air all that one would figure it would take to fire this beast up but alas i'm stumped it refuses to fire. I got it as a project its running 6" of lift 38x12.5x15.. Now can someone please help me get the beast running. Thanks for any advice78 k 5 blazer stock 350 edelbrock 1406 carb blazer will not fire?

?? 6" of lift and tire size has nothing to do with it not firing????
we need more information... was it running and what have you done. Had the distributor been removed and replaced? It might be 180* out (this happens a lot) or the gear may be stripped , the timming chain may be shot.. Valves may be to tight, if someone tried to adjust them.
There's a lot more stuff. Need more information

How to put a stock quadrajet carb. on a edelbrock manifold?
i have a 5.7 chevy and i dont want to buy another carb, so i want to put my quadrajet carb on a edelbrock intake manifold that was given to me. how can i do this??How to put a stock quadrajet carb. on a edelbrock manifold?
They used to have adapters for them but I don't know if they still do or not.How to put a stock quadrajet carb. on a edelbrock manifold?
You will lose horsepower and some potential torque gain with a converter plate from Q-jet to squarbore. Better to ether ditch the Qjet or use a intake manifold designed for it.
If you check with a speed shop or a place like Jegs or Summit ( or the like )you will probably be able to locate the adapter needed to put a quadrajet on an Edelbrock manifold. The bolt pattern is different on most of them unless it is an Edelbrock manifold for a spread bore carburetor.

What carburator are better edelbrock or holly?
are carburator in are 73 mustang lit up on us when we were starting it, i wanted a Holly carburator and my dad insisted on edelbrock, which one has better performance and reviews.
p.s my dad already bought the an 750 edelbrockWhat carburator are better edelbrock or holly?
holly..What carburator are better edelbrock or holly?
Ive had both. I prefer edelbrock. I've heard the holley can be better, and have potential to be better, but tuning them is a lot harder then the edelbrock. holley has 4 screws to mess with compared to the two on the front of the edelbrock, edelbrock is a lot easier to adjust when needed and performance is good. I never could get the holley right. 750 is a nice size for your ride. What carburator are better edelbrock or holly?
it depends on what youre after... an edelbrock will hold its tune better and take less adjustment to get to run decent, and yeild slightly better fuel economy... but a holley will generally make more power
Holly carburator all the way mate

Carburetor Edelbrock running my engine rich?
I was wondering why all the sudden my 600 cfm carburetor is guzzling my engine with fuel. I have no vacuum lines leaking and the intake isn't leaking either. So what the heck the carb is 6 months old! My timing hasn't changed on the engine either and fuel pressure is normal....???? its a ford 302Carburetor Edelbrock running my engine rich?
If it was running normal before, I would suggest that the level in the bowl is abnormally high. Possibly reasons include:
1. dirt / metal / rust in the fuel inlet valve seat
2. broken/collapsed float,
Jetting would not change much even with the seasons.
A leaking "power valve" can do the same thing, but they usually last for years.

Perhaps the climate change from 6 months ago has changed how the tune of the carb is working. Especially now that the air is getting cooler. Check the choke also, could be slightly closed.Carburetor Edelbrock running my engine rich?
sounds like its time for you to purchase a calibration kit. its easy to rejet them. out of the box theyre tuned for 350's so youll probably have to jet down a couple sizes.

I have an edelbrock Qjet 1901 to mount on a 1978 Dodge 440 RV. I need conversion advice.?
The Qjet came off of a GM intake manifold, so I expect some bolt pattern issues. Any insights will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!I have an edelbrock Qjet 1901 to mount on a 1978 Dodge 440 RV. I need conversion advice.?
unless you got the bracket that's needed for doing this and the pin for the transmission control cable its going to be a lot of trouble do it on that one,and you may also need converter plate under it so it will mount up,it may wind up being more trouble than its worth to use that carb, good luck.

with headers and flowmasters. what kind of power should i expect?I recently bought a 79 camaro resto mod has a 305 HO with a bigger cam and an edelbrock 600 4 barrel.?
Likely a loss. Also, I bet it lost a TON of torque in the RPM range where you do 99% of your driving. If so, it is a total performance loss accross the board accept WOT and wound up.
If you are looking for a number, I will tell you to kiss the ground if you get anywhere close to 250-275 with stock heads and some tuning. You are also giving up a TON of torque and horsepower with a dual exhaust compared to a single. That enigne with stock heads will make the best numbers anywhere/everywhere with a single 2 1/4 exhaust on it.
I would do a metering rod change on that carburetor, as they come with very fat(rich) ones on the power step. FYI: I personally feel that Jet prepped QuadraJets are S**T. I personally feel that they have no clue what they are doing with them other than make them look nice. I've fixed more brand new Jet builds which would not run out the box than I care to count. They knock the air bleeds out so the air bleeds are in essence giant. Big air bleeds KILL the signal to the jets and require BIG jets.
One recipe fits all does not apply. However, I feel that this is how they build them. At least that's what I have seen when I tear into one of their builds. The air bleeds also effect the enrichment during the throttle transition and hence 'how quick' the carb 'jumps on the jet' so to say. The bigger the bleeds, the slower that is. Also the air bleeds effect the fuel enrichment throughout the entire fuel curve/RPM range. That's a big reason why alot of the stuff of theirs that I have put my hands on have HUGE stumbles in them. Going from .118 air bleeds down to say maybe .070 and the carburetor is a completely different animal anywhere and everywhere. Jet should stick to Holley's, in this guy's opinion.
Email: camshaftshaun@gmail.comI recently bought a 79 camaro resto mod has a 305 HO with a bigger cam and an edelbrock 600 4 barrel.?
Shaun and chevyracer are pretty much on. First off, the "HO" designation did not exist on a 79 Camaro; The LG-3 305 came in only two horsepower levels, one for an auto trans, not for any added horsepower - "HO" is pretty much an 80's designation.
You'll be making a little better horsepower with a cam change, but not much, and as Shaun mentioned, its very easy to over-cam, over-intake, and over-exhaust the car, unless the engine build was a very sensible one.
If the heads haven't been touched and you're stuck with the (dismal) stock 305's compression ratio (which is likely around 8.6:1), you'll be lucky to even top 200 hp. The good news is that the Edelbrock 600 cfm is matched well to a 305; the bad news is that a Jet-prepped Quadrajet would probably have given you better flow velocity and better low-end torque numbers.
If you can provide better data on the heads (and any mods to them), and any cam specs, the "air-dyno" would be far more accurate!I recently bought a 79 camaro resto mod has a 305 HO with a bigger cam and an edelbrock 600 4 barrel.?

Is there anyway to check my carbureter on my 1986 chevy truck its an edelbrock .?
i have fuel up to the carbureter but the truck wont start it turns over. but wont start. and can anyone tell me how to check if the carbureter is flooding. i got the carbureter rebuilt but im still having problems. how can i tell if its just not good.
thanks in advanceIs there anyway to check my carbureter on my 1986 chevy truck its an edelbrock .?
do not look down the carburetor while your trying to crank the engine. It could backfire and shoot fuel, or worse, ignited fuel into your face. But if you want to risk it, wear safety goggles. This is what I would do. If you disconnect the line from the carburetor and crank the engine (catching the fuel in a jar) to check for fuel to the carburetor. Re-connect the fuel line and try cranking the engine over. With the engine NOT running. Look into the carburetor and open the throttle linkage by hand. Just before the throttle plate are wide open, the power piston should shoot extra gasoline into the venturis or throttle bores. If it is totally quiet, you should hear it and/or see it. If the fuel line screws into a fuel filter fitted to the carburetor base, the filter may be in backwards. Another thing you can do is crank the engine over with the throttle wide open. Do this for about 6 seconds, wait and crank the engine again with the accellerator all the way down. Now check you spark plugs to see if they're wet. If they are, replace your plugs with new ones and try starting the engine. If your plugs are dry, and there is no gas entering the throttle bores, you have a much more serious problem, indicating improper procedure of carburetor re-assembly. It could also be such a simple thing as putting a gasket in the wrong way, or using a wrong gasket on re-asembly.Is there anyway to check my carbureter on my 1986 chevy truck its an edelbrock .?
I take it it's a four-barrel? You should be able to look down in the carb while having someone crank the vehicle over and see a spray of fuel going down into the engine. If not, you may have a problem with the float level and needle-and-seat assembly. Take it back to whoever rebuilt it and have them check the float level. Is there anyway to check my carbureter on my 1986 chevy truck its an edelbrock .?
If I'm not mistaken, it is a duplicate of a Q jet. Take the air cleaner off and look inside at the front venturi's with a flashlight. While looking, reach over and pump the accelerator with your right hand. If you see gas being squirted, then you have fuel to the carb. If not, your float may be stuck. Sometimes a couple of whacks with the plastic end of a large screwdriver to the front of the carb will free it up.

How much horsepower does a 351m/400 with a 268 cam, Edelbrock highrise intake, Edelbrock 4bbl carb, all MSD wiring, plugs, and 6" box, with 3" exhaust have? How much horsepower does a 351m/400 with headers, 268cam, Edelbrock highrise intake, Edelbrock 4bbl carb..?
They rate horsepower at different rpms. That same engine in different cars could be up to 20% different due to wear, assembly, crank or many other things. They only true way to know is to have vehicle, or motor put on Dyno. I had that same motor years ago, and if I had to guess I would say close to 325hp.How much horsepower does a 351m/400 with headers, 268cam, Edelbrock highrise intake, Edelbrock 4bbl carb..?
You didnt mention the heads..... if you have the stock heads and stock compression of lets say 9:1 then I would say 250HP.... with big valve heads and 11:1 or 12:1 then the HP goes alot higher. How much horsepower does a 351m/400 with headers, 268cam, Edelbrock highrise intake, Edelbrock 4bbl carb..?
Desk top dyno says 295 HP @ 4500 rpm is the peak .
Thats with the low compression dish pistons . Flat tops will bring it up to 320 Hp . This motor puts out close to 400 ft pounds of torque . Thats what gets a big car/truck in motion .
Around 400 horse power.

Is edelbrock a good performance brand?
Does it give u a lot or a lil juice? Is edelbrock a good performance brand?
i have had real good luck from edelbrock products ,right now I'm running one of their carbs and intake set ups,and it does really good,so far no problems from any of it,some people say the carbs are junk ,but mine has ran really good, for about 6 strait months, good luck with it.
Edelbrock is one of the oldest hot rod intake manifold makers. They were experimental in devising new carburetor combinations, like three two barrels, or two four barrels, etc. The idea was good, but the mechanics of synchonizing multiple carburetors was just being developed. I do not know if they are still in business, especially since most newer cars are fuel injected, leaving the carburetor to be a thing of the past.Is edelbrock a good performance brand?
yes pretty damn good if i say but if your in an import like me theres not a whole lot parts for us
Top of the line. They are always performing research and developement to stay at the top of their game. What you get out of it depends on what you spend. Is edelbrock a good performance brand?
yes, well known for their heads

What spark plugs go on a 1990 mustang with edelbrock heads, stroked 347?
If you like champion plugs, use part #RC12YC. Make sure they are gapped correctly and use anti-seize on the threads of your plugs (you don't need a lot). Actually use anti-seize on ANY threads that are installed into your aluminum heads (header bolts, etc). If you don't already have them, pick up some ARP head studs, you will be glad you didWhat spark plugs go on a 1990 mustang with edelbrock heads, stroked 347?
The same ones that go in a standard 5 litre. What spark plugs go on a 1990 mustang with edelbrock heads, stroked 347?
Figure out which heads they are and call tech support at edelbrock or summit, they can tell you which plugs to use if they are different.

Can you put a Edelbrock 449 HP Crate Engine into a suzuki sidekick?
i was wondering if you could swap a edelbrock 449 hp crate engine (ford small block) in to a suzuki sidekick???Can you put a Edelbrock 449 HP Crate Engine into a suzuki sidekick?
Yes, though a GM engine would be far easier. Plenty of support for 4.3L swaps as well as I believe a few LS1 and maybe other small blocks. Can you put a Edelbrock 449 HP Crate Engine into a suzuki sidekick?

My edelbrock carb isn't flowing gas all the way through. It goes in one sibe but not the other, what do i do?
It goes in the one side but not to the other. The gas pumps fine in to it.My edelbrock carb isn't flowing gas all the way through. It goes in one sibe but not the other, what do i do?
Take the top off and CLEAN IT!! Clearly there is something blocking the flow of fuel from one side to the other. Just don't loose any clips!
If you kow how Edelbrock carbs work, you'll understand the question and my answer. My edelbrock carb isn't flowing gas all the way through. It goes in one sibe but not the other, what do i do?
One side of the Carb or One side of the Intake? Be more specific please. My edelbrock carb isn't flowing gas all the way through. It goes in one sibe but not the other, what do i do?
next time let us know what model, if it's a double pumper or vacuum secondaries, if fuel isn't going in the left or right front venturi or goes in the front but not the back venturies. if gas pumps fine into "it" what is wrong.

Will an edelbrock 410hp crate engine fit in my 98 camaro?
im thinking of putting an edelbrock 410 crate engine in my camaro but before i buy it i want to make sure it will work. Will an edelbrock 410hp crate engine fit in my 98 camaro?
I'll be another to chime in - it makes no sense to go with a Gen I engine in your Camaro, when the LS series engines are a much more appropriate fit. If you have an existing LS engine, you can pull over 400 hp out of an LS without much effort, so your money would effectively be wasted on old-school tech. Its also not emissions-legal, the fuel injection system would not work without a lot of finagling, and if you're considering moving back to a carburetor, that makes no sense either, since the injection system on an LS is far superior to a carb (not to mention very performance friendly as well.
You didn't mention whether you're considering this swap to a V6 Camaro, either. The swap will entail a bunch of additional modifications if you're doing that switch.
If you're bent on swapping the Edelbrock in, know it won't be a straight-in drop - the distributor will interfere with the cowl (the distributor is rear mount on a Gen 1, remember, so it'll poke up right where the engine slides under the cowl). You will need to do a low-profile cap distributor with a remote coil. You will also need to adapt the old bellhousing/trans mount on your engine to the trans - the dimensions on trans mounts is different on LS's - they make adapters, so that isn't too terrible.
I wouldnt if i were you. If you have the LS1 Camaro i would just build that up. There will be a lot of tuning issues you will have with this engine. And you might have to get a new computer if it cannot be tuned. Also you will need to get a new K-member. And possibly a new bell housing. And few other things. To be honest. its not worth the money to drop that engine in. Well hope this helps. Good Luck with your swap:)Will an edelbrock 410hp crate engine fit in my 98 camaro?
not without a conversion kit.. but may i ask why you would do this.. when a LS1 has more potential.. and is a direct swap
i agree with jmgx3Will an edelbrock 410hp crate engine fit in my 98 camaro?
ya but please dont but if you do send that ls1 my way please. there is no point in it unless your ls1 is screwed and cant get fixed. also the edelbrock is heavier and not as streetable. go to ls1 tech and ask around what you can do to get 400hp. if you don know how to build a engine get your engine rebuilt to around 400hp with forged internals if your going to race it, it'll be lots less then for the engine.
Will it "fit"? Yes. It it's a Gen1 small block though, it's not a direct bolt in.
You're better off building a LS1 or any variation of that and dropping it in.

Hp in 78 355 with rv cam, headers, dual exhust, 202 heads, holley 600 on a edelbrock intake ?
I'm look at to diff blocks wonder which is the better buy, this one or the one with the lunati cam in itHp in 78 355 with rv cam, headers, dual exhust, 202 heads, holley 600 on a edelbrock intake ?
It is a completely mismatched combination.
The Lunati cam is about the most void of quality control and consistency of camshaft as you can buy. At least I can say that based on every one of them that I have checked. I have checked hundreds if not thousands of them. You can't even get repeatability in two identical grinds.
We laugh at them whenever someone sends us on to check with a cam Dr. We call them "Looney."
Sized right, single exhausts on a naturally aspirated small or big block Chevy will ALWAYS make more torque and horsepower than duals will, and all the way up to 7,000 RPM.
2.02 valves are a total loss in a 350 at street rpm levels. Especially with a Hydraulic cam.
In answer to your question: If I were you, I would kiss the ground if you make anywhere even close to 275 horsepower. 90% of the time, a stock head will flow more with the stock valves than it will with 2.02's in it because the guy doing the valve seat work has no clue what he is doing. The valve seat and the valve throat area are VERY critical areas for either helping or drastically hurting flow.
Also, it is not simply about peak flow, it is about velocity in the port.

Edelbrock performer tbi intake worth the money?
will an Edelbrock performer tbi intake (7404) on my stock heads and mild rv cam give me noticeable power increase? its a newly rebuilt chevy small block 350 (.30 over) w/ tbi on my 1991 silverado 4x4. any thoughts?Edelbrock performer tbi intake worth the money?
Not really. You'd need to go a full multi-port setup to see big gains, and a pair of Vortec/LT1 heads as well.

Ball bearing in an edelbrock carburator?
Is there a ball bearing in there? Where does it go? What size should it be?Ball bearing in an edelbrock carburator?
Sort of. There is 1 item that does look like a ball bearing or a big BB
It fits in a hole under the pump jet housing (discharge nozzle, squirter)
The pump jet housing is held in with 2 screws, under this is a gasket, and a hole right in the center of carb body under the housing.
In this hole is a brass retangle shaped item called the pump discharge weight and under that is your "ball bearing" It's called a pump discharge ballBall bearing in an edelbrock carburator?
that bearing is the discharge bearing for the accelerator pump. there should be a small screw close to the accelerator pump and the bearing goes under the screw. it,s there so the accelerator don,t pump too much gas.Ball bearing in an edelbrock carburator?

I just bought an Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold.?
Manifold. So in general will upgrading my intake, will their be a any performance gain?I just bought an Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold.?
It will give you a better air-flow, so your horsepower should go up 20-40hp. You might consider adding a cam to match. Of course then to top the match (howbeit expensive) is to add performance heads.I just bought an Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold.?
You'll see some gain, but mostly you'll notice that it will perform best in a different rpm band than it did before. If you're looking for big numbers, though, you have to remember that upgrading one thing isn't going to make much of a difference, because the whole system is only as strong as its weakest link.I just bought an Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold.?
Any upgrades from standard will increase performance But i dont think you will notice It will help the engine breath better
You will not notice much unless you port the intake runners on the heads too.

Can i install an Edelbrock Pro-Flo on a 1978 Monte Carlo and still pass the Smog Test(California)?
their is an area on the bottom where you can make a hole and connect it to the breather, so should it pass? Can i install an Edelbrock Pro-Flo on a 1978 Monte Carlo and still pass the Smog Test(California)?
Not sure, it's over 31 years old so there might be an exemption however the Eddy Pro-Flo II contains the following small print;
* Not legal for sale or use on pollution controlled motor vehicles.
I would check with DMV, Good Luck! Can i install an Edelbrock Pro-Flo on a 1978 Monte Carlo and still pass the Smog Test(California)?
Maybe, but you should use Bosch Platinum single points, or Nippondenso Iridium spark plugs, which burn more completely. Good Luck!!

Will a edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor bolt on and fit on my stock 87 Monte Carlo SS intake manifold?
I wanted to know because I have 1edelbrock 600 cfm carb to go on my 87 Monte SS and my Rochester quadrajet will need to be rebuilt and I have no time for thatWill a edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor bolt on and fit on my stock 87 Monte Carlo SS intake manifold?
Edelbrock carbs are a spreadbore carb exactly like a Quadrajunk, bolts right on.
A vehicle that had a quadrajet on it has a spreadbore intake. A standard Performer carb is a square bore carb - they are not the same. For a stock spread bore intake, you need adapter (#2696 - from the papers I have lying around - check that before you buy!) to mount the Edelbrock. You can either get that adapter, or I've seen generic adapter plates in performance shops and well equipped auto parts stores.
Be careful with the carb and the spacer - double check your hood clearance before you slam that hood - you might end up close to the limit. You might get by with a drop-mount type air filter to get the clearance - but remember that threaded tip has to be lower or you might end up with one annoying looking dimple in your hood!
Also, you may need to finagle where the fuel line comes in - the edelbrock carb's inlet is on the passenger side (I think - I'm running from my memory on this one), while the Rochester's fuel inlet is right in the front. I corrected mine by using a universal inline filter and some fuel line.
Good luck! Will a edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor bolt on and fit on my stock 87 Monte Carlo SS intake manifold?
It should bolt right up. If not all you need is a plate.
I can't remember what the stock intake looks like but if it has the 4 round holes where car goes then you will need to spread bore to square bore adapter plate
If its two large almost oval shaped holes kinda like the edelbrock performer intake, then the eddy carb will bolt right on, leak free
It will bolt on to the other style spread bore intake with the 4 holes but will have a vac leak on the pass side and rear IIRC cause the intake is not wide enough to seal w/o the use of adapter plateWill a edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor bolt on and fit on my stock 87 Monte Carlo SS intake manifold?
think u will need adapter plate.......they run about 30 bucks at the parts store new......but u can find them for around 10 bucks used at garages sometimes......

Are these kits legal for driving on the streets? Is the Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT fuel injection kit street legal?
Most of these are for non-emissions vehicles...meaning if you have a catted exhaust it's not legal. But I'm not sure who's going to call you on it...maybe in california it would be an issue.

Edelbrock or Holley carb for stock 350 Chevy?
I currently am using a GM manifold, but also have a Performer intake.Edelbrock or Holley carb for stock 350 Chevy?
i think you,d like the way the edelbrock, and the way it kicks in a lot better and they stay tuned a whole lot better than a holley does,i own an edelbrock and i haven't touched the adjustment screws on it in months ,before that i had holley on it and i had to reset it every other day,and this is on a chevy s-10 with 350 in it,and the edelbrock to me is more economical as long as im not getting in it,good luck, and happy new years,
How do you have a GM and Edelbrock part at the same time? Intake=manifold...
Anyway, it depends what you're looking for. Holleys are good, but overrated and overpriced. Many Edelbrocks are rebadged Webers, which in my opinion are a superior product. Quadrajets are severely underrated, very affordable and can give great performance and driveability. I'm a big fan of using multiple two barrel carbs, and Rochesters are a dime a dozen, stone reliable, and can give you a lot of tuning options not available elsewhere.Edelbrock or Holley carb for stock 350 Chevy?
A matter of taste. IMHO, edlebrocks work better on top of edelbrock intakes. Holleys MAY work a little better on stock manifolds.

You should not as long as ur not hitting anything like the throttle linkage or as long as it clears the vacuum port in the rear of the intake. If you need on they are not expensive and use a good gasket.Do you need an adapter plate when using a edelbrock carberatuer on a holley intake manifold?
I was going to say yes. But then again I am not that smart! hahahahaha
Theres 2 types of common carb flanges. Square bore and spread bore. The eddy carb has a square bore mounting flange, so if your holley intake is a square bore pad it will bolt right on
If its a spread bore intake, it will not fit with out an adapter
Heres what a square bore intake looks like http://static.summitracing.com/global/im鈥?/a> and heres what a spread bore looks like http://static.summitracing.com/global/im鈥?/a>

Are edelbrock carburators the same for chevy ford and chrysler?
i want to buy a edelbrock carburator 1407 thats currently on a ford and put it in my chevy 383 with an edelbrock intake. ThanksAre edelbrock carburators the same for chevy ford and chrysler?
Edelbrock/Carter carbs are universal carburetors made by Weber. Only difference is throttle linkage. Change the Ford linkage on the carb to Chevy and it will work. Are edelbrock carburators the same for chevy ford and chrysler?
Edelbrock carbs are uni fit aftermarket carbs. Its a std square bore pattern and will fit any make/mod/year with an intake that will accept a square bore carb.
Only diff is the throttle linkage. Out of the box the carb is ready to use on GM, and mopar, but needs an extra bolt on linkage bracket to work on fordsAre edelbrock carburators the same for chevy ford and chrysler?
it fita almost all vehicles... you may need a adapter plate if going on a stock intake... and the throttle linkages are different... so you will need the part to hook your throttle cable up... other than that its universal....
ok they work on chevys and fords but not chrysler they use some other kind but it should work good i did the same thing once.

High fuel pressure on edelbrock carburetor?
I was wondering what kind of damage high fuel pressure can do to a street carburetor.High fuel pressure on edelbrock carburetor?
It won't damage the carb but will cause the engine to flood if the pressure is high enough to overcome the float valve. If the engine has cats, they will be destroyed by the over-rich mixture.

Will a scangauge 2 work with edelbrock fuel injection?
Are you referring to an OBD2 scan tool? If so, yes, if it's 1996 or newer. The OBD (On Board Diagnostics) system is still there even though you upgraded the fuel injection.

I just installed an edelbrock carb in my sbc and i tried to turn it on after putting the distributor and?
the carb squirted i think gas and does'nt start and when i leave the key turning it on it squirtes gas straught up out the carb, this is the first time i tried starting it after installing the new intake carb and hei distributor. any help on what it could be? and i know i need to change the spark plug wires, could that also be the problem? becuase the wires dont fit correctly on the distributor. this is a 71 impalaI just installed an edelbrock carb in my sbc and i tried to turn it on after putting the distributor and?
You need HEI wires. The cap is different on newer electronic ignition Chevys than it is old style points caps. If you replaced the distributor and it's spitting out gas then you probably installed it 180 degrees out.
By the way, this is the Ford section.I just installed an edelbrock carb in my sbc and i tried to turn it on after putting the distributor and?
your float is stuck, tap the carb with a screwdriver handle and see if it stops.if it dont, assembly is in question

What do you need to do to make a 1984 chevy c10 with a 350 edelbrock 1406 carb run on E85?
the motor it's new and the transmission it's new and i just want to run E85 not turn the truck in to a rack truckWhat do you need to do to make a 1984 chevy c10 with a 350 edelbrock 1406 carb run on E85?
In a Naturally Aspirated engine, E85 is a waste of time at less than 11:1 compression.
It's a cheap octane alternative to Race gas, but unless you have some compression or a turbo/blower with 20lbs of boost, don't waste your time/energy. Seriously.
I've never seen this done, but to start you need to increase the size of the main jets by a bunch. You might check at the edelbrock web sight, and see if you can get some technical help with this one. What do you need to do to make a 1984 chevy c10 with a 350 edelbrock 1406 carb run on E85?
Besides changing the carburetor you will also need to replace many of the seals, hoses, and gaskets; anything rubber that will contact the E-85. E-85 will damage seals that were intended to be used with gasoline.
Quite frankly you would have to be quite foolish or ignorant to even consider using E-85. Your mileage will drop by about 40% so it will cost you more to drive on E-85 than it would on gasoline unless E-85 sells for much less per gallon than gas. Also, the production of ethanol damages the environment more than gasoline. It pollutes the water, consumes as much energy to produce it as you get back out, and depletes the worlds food supply. The only reason E-85 even exists is the power of the farm lobby working to increase food prices, and our politicians attempting to give the illusion that they are doing something about the energy crisis.
Many people point to the use of E-85 in Brazil as an example of the benefits of E-85. In Brazil E-85 is produced from sugar which is several time more efficient than using corn.
I agree with howard, and just for your information, E85 is a higher octane fuel, which I'm assuming is why you want to run E85. But it has less BTU's than gasoline, so it's give and take. I would just run gas and save money. Not to mention your fuel system and motor is already designed to run on gas. Why change it?What do you need to do to make a 1984 chevy c10 with a 350 edelbrock 1406 carb run on E85?
you can pull the carb off and let someone beat you with it E85 will reduce gas milage and power besides its a chevy its not meant to run off E85
makes no sense to me why you want to change the motor over to e-85, you might as well change it to propane. it is a wast of time and money.
Theres a place for E85 fuel in older performance apps. But alot needs to be thought about and done to make it work.
E85 gets about 40% less fuel mileage but has a good bit higher octane so that means you can bump your compression ratio up, higher compression helps engine to have a higher VE% and will get better mileage.
So going from 8.5 to 9:1 on pump fuel to 11:1 on E85 will get your lost mileage back.
Now you have to think about the fuel. E85 will eat up rubber and corrode alum.
So you have to replace all rubber lines with steel or stainless in the fuel system.
You have to replace rubber seals and gaskets in carb, fuel pump and engine with nitophyl, viton, or bunna
You need to have all alum parts like body of carb anodized or coated in some sort of a way so the E85 wont touch the aluminum
Then of course you need to jet your carb up a good bit

Edelbrock power kit for my old chevy truck?
I was thinking to get an edelbrock power kit for my old late 70s chevy surburban with a stock 350. Which one should I get, how would I install it, and how would it help and hurt overall? In Hp, life, fuel economy, and anything else you can think of? ThanksEdelbrock power kit for my old chevy truck?
the whole idea of increasing power is to get it to breathe better, compress better, burn better,%26amp; exhaust faster than the stock system...simply adding performance parts will only give you the power increase they are designed to do...but you would be better off looking at everything as a whole. for instance..replacing a 2 barrel carburetor %26amp; manifold with a 4 barrel carburetor %26amp; manifold with out a better cam shaft, better head,s, performance ignition system,%26amp; performance exhaust system will only give you a minimal power increase...to do it right start with a full plan to get the performance you desire...but performance come,s at a price. less economy %26amp; overall life. after all your demanding more of your engine than it was originally designed for...mild performance upgrade,s will give longer life %26amp; better fuel economy...but if your like me...there can never be enough power..best of luck!Edelbrock power kit for my old chevy truck?

What should i do first put in a cold air intake in my truck or put edelbrock headers?
witch one will give me more hp and witch would be better to put in first i have a 1994 chevy ext cab silverado thanksWhat should i do first put in a cold air intake in my truck or put edelbrock headers?
the headers will give you much more horsepower than a cold air intake. What should i do first put in a cold air intake in my truck or put edelbrock headers?
Well, it's your choice.
2-3 horsepower.
Or 3-4 horsepower.
(neither amount will make your vehicle faster. It will only create a placebo effect)
That's all you're going to get out of either one of them. So choose how you want to waste your money.
By the way, your truck HAS a cold air intake, from the factory. All an aftermarket one does, is just slightly increase the flow rate. But it's so insignificant, that it's laughable. What should i do first put in a cold air intake in my truck or put edelbrock headers?
kudos to first answerer. i've been trying to tell people this for years!! in fact, the increased flow rate will allow more contaminates into your engine, leading to premature wear and a dirty engine! keep it stock!!! the headers will slightly increase exhaust flow compared to stock manifolds, but heck, the exhaust being stock will have just the same amount of restriction catalytic converter and muffler, and factory bends in the pipe. if you go exhaust, get an entire hi flow system, that's gonna get you some power

I have an already installed Edelbrock crate 350 engine. Any marks on engine that will rate the HP?
To the mechanic specializing in classic muscle cars... Are you for real man..
I wish 400 HP was that easy to get.. On 99% of the 350's it will take MUCH more than an intake, carb and cam swap to get 400 HP at the crank.
Most 350's had 175-240 HP stock.. Low compression dish pistons, poor flowing heads high cc heads, 7.8 to 8.5 compression, etc etc.
To get 400 HP you need 9.5 to 10.25:1 compression, heads that flows atleast in the 220's/160's cfm range, 230* @.050" cam, good intake, carb, headers,
To the asker...
Yes based on parts engine has one it. Look at the carb.. Bottom of flange on pass side get that # off it.
Look at heads, front ends of heads, should say edelbrock and a #,
Look at intake and write down what intake says
Now go to edelbrock's web site and compare the parts you have on your engine to the parts installed on their crates.. When you find one with the same heads, intake, carb, etc then you will know which one you haveI have an already installed Edelbrock crate 350 engine. Any marks on engine that will rate the HP?
Not usually - I have never seen it. A stock 350 with no upgrades generates around 250-275 hp. Remove the stock manifold and add an aluminum Edelbrock manifold with a good 4 barrel carb and a slight street cam your hp will jump to around 350 - 450. The only way to find out for sure is to put it on a Dyno. That will give you the peak HP as well as the torque rating. It is a safe bet if you have a crate motor from the factory it will be cranking a solid 375 horse minimum.I have an already installed Edelbrock crate 350 engine. More than likely not.nada bluebook

Where can you get a replacement choke plate for a Edelbrock 1813?
If Edelbrock can't supply it, you would have to repair the one you have. What can go wrong with a choke plate? It's not that critical that you can't repair it in my opinion.
Can a stock timing chain set be used with an Edelbrock performer rpm camshaft?
Yes, but the heavier duty set is the best bet. You don't want to scrimp hereCan a stock timing chain set be used with an Edelbrock performer rpm camshaft?
yea but why would you wanna risk it. a setup into a dual chain isnt expensive, so be safe and get one.

Planning on buying an edelbrock carb with electric choke. What "hot-key" source can i connect it to?
i would liek to know the easiest way. can it be connected directly to the battery? why or why not? please helpPlanning on buying an edelbrock carb with electric choke. What "hot-key" source can i connect it to?
dont hook it to the ignition coil. many coils dont run on full battery voltage. the best hot wire key on only is the ignition switch, and supplies plenty of amperage to supply the choke with room to spare. run a fuse (5a)Planning on buying an edelbrock carb with electric choke. What "hot-key" source can i connect it to?
"Hot in run" describes the circuit you'd want to use. It also makes sense to have it on an engine-related circuit, so the next guy to look at it can figure out what the heck you did :)
You might want to get a book and take some time and learn some basic automotive electrical. (not all the computer stuff, just basic circuits.) You can do a lot of cool stuff with it, you'll enjoy it a lot.Planning on buying an edelbrock carb with electric choke. What "hot-key" source can i connect it to?
It should be wired to a circuit that is "hot" with the key "on". If you wire it to a source that is "hot" all the time, like the battery, you will burn out the electrical part of the choke. It is not designed to stay on all the time. Only on startup and until the engine warms up. The easiest way is to run a wire to an ignition accessory circuit on the fuse panel. It will only be "hot" with the key on. Make sure the wire is protected with the correct size fuse. The carb should come with instructions also.
i own a repair shop and don't hook it to the battery hook it to the distributor wire,it only needs very little voltage to operate but if you hook it to the battery you,ll burn the choke unit up in less than one day on it,use the distributor hot wire for it it should be close, and it only needs to be hot when the car is started or running, when you cut the key off there should be no voltage to the choke at all, good luck i hope this helps.

holly..What carburator are better edelbrock or holly?

You may check out http://www.microfasteners.com/ they are selling different kinds and high quality screws and other fastening accessories that you need. Hope this helps!I got a pair of Edelbrock Elite Tall valve covers what screws, bolts, or fasteners do I need?
I do agree about the ARP fasteners, they make a wide range of products. The quick release valve cover system they market is very nice, its a half turn to remove. The lower post sections are installed to the rail of the head, and the top section which are the locks go on top of the covers. This is a very slick set up to replace the factory bolts, they may cost more but you get the quality you expect.I got a pair of Edelbrock Elite Tall valve covers what screws, bolts, or fasteners do I need?
If you have clearance to pull the valve covers straight up during removal, check-out a set of *ARP valve cover studs and screws.
Wish you had listed the exact engine the valve covers went on. Chevrolet Vortec cylinder heads require four long fasteners to mount them in a row on-top of the valve covers.
You may check out http://www.microfasteners.com/ they are selling different kinds and high quality screws and other fastening accessories that you need. Hope this helps!I got a pair of Edelbrock Elite Tall valve covers what screws, bolts, or fasteners do I need?

Should I add edelbrock aluminum heads to my 72 chevelle?
i have a 72 chevelle black with grey stripes. custom interior and cowl induction hood. 350 GM motor 290hp. She is great and i heard the only upgrades really are the edelbrock aluminum heads. should i get them? pics of car on my 360 profileShould I add edelbrock aluminum heads to my 72 chevelle?
two questions that i have, do you like power, and can you find a ride with out that car. if you answered yes to both of these along with the ability to find the money to get the parts, then go ahead and do it. i would, but i love the ability to do 80 in first gear with three more to go. i could not get to your 360 to see the car.Should I add edelbrock aluminum heads to my 72 chevelle?
Depends on if you want to pay the expense. The difference in weight over cast iron may gain you a few hp but the choice is up to you as whether it is worth the cost.

What are the best heads for a bone stock 400cid motor with a edelbrock street tunnel ram intake with 2x4 carb?
There are many companies that make high flow aluminum heads in the aftermarket that will bolt on about 60 hp. They are already ported and polished and have a low 644 cc chambers to raise your compression. If you are going this far, then i would recommend swapping out the camshaft as well. The cam and heads work together. Putting heads on with a stock or near stock cam will not allow the engine to breather properly and you will have wasted your money with the heads. But everything works together. You need a lower rear gear ration, cam, heads ,headers, intake and carbueration to make this engine fly. My recommendation is to call a cam company such as comp cams, or lunati or whoever you choose. Explain what heads you want to buy and ask for their help in location the proper cam for your application.
Good luck
PS... I just finished my project Corvette with the very same ideas that you have for your motor.

Is edelbrock really better than holley?
i was talking to this guy earlyer and he said he would rather have an edelbrock and re jet it than get a holley, he said they stay tuned better and actually perform better, is that true?Is edelbrock really better than holley?
Holley carbs were the best, now Edelbrock has caught up to them, in both quality and applications. For a total intake package, go with Edelbrock
for street use or drag racing holley is a better carb ...
off road or 4 wheel drive use edelbrock is a better carb because it is set up for 4 cornor idling and performs better in off road applicationsIs edelbrock really better than holley?
i like quadrajets better than either one.
yes they really are better carburetors than a holley is,the holley wont stay tuned right and will never run the same for more than 5 days in a role, you can tune an edelbrock once and it stays set for a long time without needing adjusted,im running a few edlebrocks right now on a chevy and a few on some dodges, and i prefer them over a holley, you,ll get people that will prefer a holley though over an edelbrock, but for me the edlebrock has been the carburetor of choice for about 20 years now, good luck.Is edelbrock really better than holley?
The 'brock vs. holley debate is really no different than the Ford vs. Chevy debate. Everyone has their own opinion on what works better and why they would run one part over another. It really would just come down to the application you were running, the parts you chose, and how well all of your parts work together. A brand is just a brand. Both companies produce great products. Its up to you to decide what would work for you.superchips

Mystery edelbrock valvecovers?!?!? i thought they were for a y block but theyre way to big? any ideas?
theyre bigger than y block, with center bolt holes closer in than a y block. theyre not nail head either. heavy cast alum edelbrock, look like from the 60's they are bad ***, but they dont fit.Mystery edelbrock valvecovers?!?!? i thought they were for a y block but theyre way to big? any ideas?

Would an edelbrock 750 cfm carb be too much for a 305 high output engine?
its in a 1987 monte carlo ss aerocoupe. we are thinking there is an oversied cam in the engine, but we are not positive. so, i was wondering, would it be to much for the 305 if it were stock, and would it be too much if it had an oversized cam. thanks.Would an edelbrock 750 cfm carb be too much for a 305 high output engine?
Sorry but both answers are WRONG, and making the classic mistake of over carb'ing the engine.
You need one heII of a 305 to need a 750 cfm carb.
Formulas for air capacity
street carb cfm = rpm x displacement / 3456 x 0.85
street/strip carb cfm = rpm x displacement / 3456 x 0.95
race carb cfm = rpm x displacement / 3456 x 1.1
The 305 aint going to make power over about 5500 rpm due to its small bore size (engine with asthma, it runs out of air)
So do that math. Even if you figure with a 95% VE (need aftermarket heads, bigger cam, better exhaut, etc etc to get 95% VE)
That puts you at only needing a 461 cfm carb.
Put a 500 cfm edelbrock on it and be happy knowing you have the right carb for your app.
Everyone wants to over carb and over cam every v8 engine.
I can't tell you how many poor running 305s and 350's that have came into my shop with 750-850 cfm carbs and 240@.050" cams
If it tells you anything.. I run a 750 cfm carb with this setup
355
10.34:1 compression
Scat crank and rods
Wisco pistons
Brodix IK 200cc alum. heads
2.02/1.60" valves
solid 249/252@.050" cam with .570"/.579" lift
billet alum full roller rockers
7/16" rocker studs
th-400, 3500 stall converter
ford 9", 3.89 gears
7000-7200 RPM shift points
Thats in a camaro that race in NHRA DOT tire class.
By your, and other peoples thinking, I guess I should pull my 750 cfm carb off and put two 1,050 cfm dominators, cause if a stock to mild 305 can use a 750 cfm carb then my wild 355 must need atleast 2,000 cfmWould an edelbrock 750 cfm carb be too much for a 305 high output engine?
It should be ok it its a stock engine. Just make sure you have an inline fuel pressure gauge so you can see working fuel pressure so you dont over fuel / flood out the engine.Would an edelbrock 750 cfm carb be too much for a 305 high output engine?
It shouldn't be too much in either case.

How do I properly adjust an edelbrock 4 barrel? ?
I've fooled with it a bunch but can't get it right. I need to know how to set the two airflow screws and the fuelHow do I properly adjust an edelbrock 4 barrel? ?
For the fuel, you need a fuel pressure gauge if your trying to set the fuel flow. If this is on a chevy you need to see 5psi of fuel. If your only at 3lb she'll dye, 7 and above it will flood out the carb cause the motor cant burn it fast enough. Roller motors with a mechanical fuel pump will run 12psi, but on a carb engine a pressure regulator must be installed. Will the engine run sure, but it mostly will flood out. There are several other factors, but just for some quick info.
Air screw adjustment
Screw them all the way in both of them, back out 2 1/2 turns If the engine is running, slow turn the one screw in or out 1/8 inch when you hear the engine pitch drop you turn it turn it back till the pitch "sounds" right do the same on the other screw. Generally 2.5 turns should be pretty close. But the way i mentioned is the old school way of doing it. Thats how I set mine never any issues. Im sure it not 100% but it dang close. How do I properly adjust an edelbrock 4 barrel? ?
the 2 jets in the front is your idle jets. adjust each 1 the same amount of turns. start out by running then in until they seat and run each 1 out 2 turns and 1/4 turn each until you get the best idle. as for the fuel you need to adjust the float. How do I properly adjust an edelbrock 4 barrel? ?

305 chevy,would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?
can someone tell me which intake manifold and carb is best for my 305 sbc,i would like to use edelbrock. will 90% of 350 parts work on 305?305 chevy, would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?
From personal experience dealing with a tuned 305 with ported stock heads, mid-level performance cam and a Performer intake - a Quadrajet is hands-down the best carb for your car.
The edelbrock 600 is a redesigned version of the Carter-series carbs. They have a fat primary and equal sized secondary - great for a 350, but it leaves your low-rpm performance soggy. The primary circuits do not run well due to low velocity/signal to the circuit - tip in tends to bog unless you do a lot of tuning to get rid of it (note - a little extra advance will go a long way to solve the tip-in bog). Holleys are similar in their fat-primary openings, although I think they're just a hair better in tuning for a small-bore engine. Your 305 acts like a "stroked small bore", since your bore size is small, yet your stroke is the same as a 350.
The quadrajet has a tiny primary circuit which works wonders in promoting velocity at part-throttle. Then, when you need WOT performance, the vacuum secondaries can come in quickly. Look for a stage-1 prepped quad for your 305.
Regarding parts - yes 90% of parts FIT on a 305, but many of the performance parts destined for a 350 are vast overkill for a 305. Cams should be kept to mid-performance level. Otherwise if you install a performance 350-grade cam, you will lose all your low-end torque for very little high-end power. Air Flow Research had some fantastic 305 spec heads - I recommend them. Otherwise, a well ported set of stock heads with stock sized 194/150 valves will offer a more than enough flow on a 305. Remember to look for small chamber sizes - don't think 350 chambers are appropriate! Look for the best flow off of the narrowest plenum you can find for your head. A fat port head with 305 - sized valves will kill your low end. Look for narrow port heads with proper sized valves with 3-angle valve jobs.
Likewise, keep your tubular headers toward the meek side. A 1 5/8 pipe is too big - you want to maintain velocity, and a good signal to your carb with your header choice!
Good luck!
Oh it will be just fine for it. as long as you have about 300-320hp out of it, but if the car is stock go with the 500CFM but if you intend on putting RHS Pro Torker Vortec Heads, Edelbrock Performer EPS Vortec Intake and an Performer-Plus Cam in it then i would say it's just fine. I did this with one of my friends to his 1982 Camaro that had a 305 and it came up to around 315hp and around 380Ft/Lbs. I can't remember exactly how much it had since we dyno-tested the car about 6 years ago but hell was that one fast 82 Camaro.
A 500 CFM carb from Edelbrock is more for engines that are stock to 300 well a 600CFM carb is more ment for 300hp-400hp engines. 305 chevy, would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?
If you want a good combo for a mostly stock 305 Chevy, a 600 cfm Holley vacuum secondary carb and an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold would be a good choice. A double pumper will most likely cause a bog or stumble unless a high stall torque converter or manual transmission is used.
A 500 to 600 cfm Edelbrock carb would be fine, too. I prefer a Holley carb for performance as I have tried both on my '74 Nova 350. The Holley always made more power for me,but it is just my preference.
The parts that won't interchange between a 305 and a 350 is shorter than what will fit. Intake manifolds, headers, cam and lifters, oil pump timing set, distributor, these are all parts that are the same.
The heads will sometimes swap, but the bore size of a 305 is smaller than a 350 and the larger intake valves in 350 heads may hit the 305 cylinder bore when fully open.
So yes, most 350 parts will fit your engine.
hey a 600 is good.. i ran a 600 on my 302 chevy engine i had in my s10 .. you can always go down a meter rod set a size or 2 if you need to . To run a engine a little rich is better than a little lean and run the chance of burning a piston yes most parts that will work on a 350 should work on a 305... i had the elelbrock performer set- carb, cam, and intake...305 chevy, would a edelbrock 600 carb be a gooD match or a 500?
I ran an Edelbrock manifold with a Holly 600 manual (edit: oops, I meant vacuum) secondary on my 305 and it was fairly easy to tune.
no to the 600 carb bc it'll be too much fuel pouring in w/out a double pumper
500 shld be a safe set up w/out blowing a streak of oil everywhere

I would go with the 500 it you are running stock heads. And go with a low rise dual plane intake manifold.
